President Ruto Launches Sh126 Million NYOTA Startup Grants for 5,040 Coastal Youth
President William Ruto has today launched the Sh. 126 million NYOTA start up capital grants for 5,040 youth drawn from Kilifi, Lamu and Tana River counties urging the youth to invest in return-based enterprises.
The president who was accompanied by his Deputy Kithure Kindiki, Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, Governors Gideon Mung’aro of Kilifi, Issa Timamy of Lamu and Dhadho Godhana of Tana River, Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo, Women Representative Getrude Mbeyu and Malindi MP Amina Mnyazi also emphasized on the need of politics of inclusivity saying that his programs targeted every corner of the country.
Also present were Cooperative Cabinet Secretary Wyclif Oparanya, his Mining colleague Hassan Joho, Labour CS Alfred Mutua, Salim Mvurya of Mining and Youth Affairs Principal Secretary Fikirini Jacobs.
“We want inclusivity, we want every young person irrespective of their backgrounds or the corner of the country they come from and how remote it is, you must get an opportunity like any young person in Kenya who live in our cities,” he said.
He added that, “Politics has derailed Kenya for a long time and it is the politics of divisions, marginalization and tribalism and that is what we don’t want as a country.”
The beneficiaries are drawn from 60 wards in the three counties, with 10 wards in Lamu, 35 in Kilifi, and 15 wards Tana River County and the disbursement follows successful completion of a mandatory four-day business skills training programme, which equipped the young businesspeople with practical skills to start and grow business.
