Oparanya linked to ODM confusion in Kakamega despite exit threats

Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya is on the spot for his recent attempt to cause confusion within the ODM party in Kakamega.

On Sunday, Oparanya invited ODM Party leader Dr Oburu Odinga to his Mabole home for a breakfast meeting.

However, it turned out to be a scheme to frustrate an ODM delegates meeting organised by Governor Fernandes Barasa in Kakamega town.

“Oparanya invited Oburu to spend the night in his house, the room which was previously reserved for the late Raila Odinga. However we realised the breakfast meeting was a scheme for a parallel meeting at his residence,” an MCA who attended the event said.

This, despite more than 2,000 delegates converging at a local hotel in Kakamega town for the event; this forced Oburu to attend the meeting in Mabole and later join the delegates in Kakamega town.

Upon arrival at the event organized in Kakamega town, Oburu distanced himself from the meeting at Oparanya’s home saying it was meant to be an informal meet up.

“This morning I was invited to take breakfast at CS Oparanya’s home but on getting there I found a group of people saying they are ODM delegates. So I had to address them because they are also our people,” he said.

Governor Barasa reiterated that despite the attempts to frustrate ODM, the party remains strong and vibrant in Kakamega.

“I am the substantive ODM Chairperson of this county, duly elected by party delegates and I shall deliver my duties which include the meeting we have today with our party leader,” Barasa said.

A little bird has whispered that Woman MP Elsie Muhanda convinced Oparanya into planning the breakfast meeting while snubbing the party meeting held in Busia on Saturday.

“Muhanda is using Oparanya to seek validation and support from the party leader by coercing him into organising a parallel meeting in Mabole, Butere,” the party official said.

This, however comes at a time when Oparanya seemed to support Barasa in a recent video that has since gone viral.

“I am told woman representative Elsie Muhanda has gubernatorial ambitions, but I thought we have a Governor at the moment,” Oparanya said during a meeting in Navakholo.

Oparanya was recently heard saying he’s ready to quit ODM party if there’s no clear position on whether to be or not to be in the broad based government approach.

ODM party delegates from Kakamega County are now calling on Dr Oburu to take charge of the party and deal with the infightings.
